I have to drive to portland to get to an apple store. So I'm going to head up there after finals next week. But yeah mine is covered under the GPU recall campaign so I'm not really worried about it. I just can't move the laptop physically or else it 3 alarms at me. lol Works fine as a desktop so far.

Well that's good haha. After a new logic board mine runs just great. Sad that my apple care expired last month. :/

The only bad thing is, I have no hope for the new logic board because it's refurbished. Nor did they make any changes on the soldering..so it's a reoccurring timebomb.

3 beeps usually mean RAM issue. Try re-seating the RAM. Try using known good RAM that is compatible with your MBP. If that doesn't resolve, do PRAM reset (normally hold Apple + Option + P + R while booting). You can also look for an ASD copy online for MBP 2011 version, download on a USB, and run a diagnostics on it, which is more detailed than MRI used in front of customers at the Apple store (and they'll use ASD when you check in the computer). Ask some friends if they have GSX privileges or check with your school, and they can look up details about your computer using your serial number; I'm working with my school to get my GSX privilege back, because schools can have ASP status even if they don't support typical customers.

Yeah I know the three beeps means RAM problem. I think it means that the OS can't write to the RAM. Tried reseating already. Tried taking out one dimm, placed it in each slot. Still can replicate. I looked up the ASD. I need 3S148 but the only place I can currently find it is from this russian site. Not sure if I can really trust that....@Zenzr you got GSX privvys?

Whelp.........locked up. Now it won't boot back up. Three alarm blaring. So for sure a ram problem or the ram slots....

    That's alright. Demotion!

Update. It only crashes when I have two ram sticks in the slots. It runs fine(?) for now with only one stick in. I've ran memtest on each one. Including apple diag on each stick separately. I've also ran the test on each DIMM. I think I can safely conclude that there's something wrong with the ram slots and how it can't handle both sticks up it's ass.

I take it back. Tapped the bottom of the case near the ram gently and it locked up with 1 stick installed. Yeah I'm done with diagnostics. Logicboard is shot.

Now the next question is, should I take it to the local authorized repair store or should I go directly to an apple store. I think I should go directly to the apple store since they're the ones more knowledgeable about the repair campaign. Any input?

Go to Apple. Even if a place is an authorize Apple Service Provider, Apple might not support them 100%; for example, a lot of places will charge Diagnostics fee even if you are covered by the Manufacturer Warranty or the Apple Care. This isn't the case for all, but you are risking it if you don't go to Apple. Apple is kind of sneaky. Even though they have "good customer service" and want their ASP's to have good customer service as well, they kind of withdraw some of the perks from the other repair locations, which makes the repair locations look really bad - not Apple.

Went to the authorized repair store, did the VST test. Passed. Fml. Any other ideas before I Furmark it 24/7? @Joshy

Hmmm, I've never been a fan of Furmark. I would just try buying new RAM before stressing it. Stress tests can actually be damaging to the computer, and it sounds like you've already been trying a few.

There's no indication I have bad ram sticks at all. http://i.imgur.com/sfi3Qag.jpg Going to let this keep going but I doubt it'll fail. I've been reading that it's probably the ram slots mutating and loosing connection when I tap the bottom of the case. Hence why I'm trying to destroy the GPU to make it fail the VST test therefore Apple would replace my logicboard. But that's something on the side table because I still plan on taking it to the apple store and let them have their way with it.

Of course I did that. The only thing I haven't done, that I found online on the apple forums, is to loosen the screws holding the ram socket onto the motherboard. Not sure how much I want to do that.

That must be some weird voodoo magic shit, which I never deal with, lol; it honestly sounds unstable and to me it sounds like putting in the RAM half way and turning on the computer - you can break something. If that is your intention so that Apple will replace the systemboard, then by all means... :P... Did you already do the PRAM reset, and possibly SMC (unlikely but also a possible candidate)?

You have serious hardware issues. You shouldn't hack it up to get it fixed. There is nothing new that can be helped with.

And I'll have you know that I was never helpful in anything. I just steer people to come up with their own "right" solution.

    Unlike the final solution.

Went to the store. Did the VST test there, first test locked up and went into 3 alarm mode. Tried to restart it, didn't work until I tapped the bottom. Ran VST again, passed. Genius still took it in and approved the new logicboard. There goes 600 bucks on apple's wallet.
