Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome - General Discussion

Discussion in TV Shows started by Vadleon, Nov 16, 2012

I'm not sure how many people here have watched the reimagined (i.e. the new) series of Battlestar Galactica and its related prequel Caprica, but for those who did you'll be thrilled to hear that Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome is now airing online! For those who didn't, go back and watch BSG! Let's get this started:

    For a bit of premise:
This series takes place during the First Cylon War (~10 years in), so it's after Caprica and well before the main BSG series. It'll focus a lot on William Adama's early career as a Viper pilot and show off the Galactica during its prime. Not much is known so far, but we can expect to see a lot of classic goodies based on both other series!

Now, technically speaking, this isn't a full series and I'm not sure if there ever will be one. What exists is, in fact, supposed to be the TV-movie pilot that would lead into a series. Currently, that movie is being broken into little web-friendly segments and shown by Machinima, and will later be shown in its complete form by Syfy early next year. Personally I think this is shameful on Syfy's part since it butchers the pacing and will likely erode the ratings/BSG's audience by the time it's actually shown on Syfy.

The main reasons I've heard why the rest of the series has been put on hold/canned are due to the costs of making the show and because Syfy doesn't think this will bring back the money they put into it. (Funny how they should complain about it not making money, since they've actually been sitting on the finished pilot for several months with no apparent plans to do anything with it until just now. I'm sorry if wrestling makes more primetime money nowadays, but I kinda want to see a scifi series on its own channel....) Edit: To be clear, this is what I've heard. I hope I'm wrong and they ultimately greenlight it, but this is the new Syfy we're talking about...

TL;DR - Syfy is staffed by monkeys.

On the good news, some familiar people are back working on this series, so the writing and production should be decent. Another notable thing is that Bear McCreary is back to score it! The trailers are promising, the music is amazing, the special effects and pew-pew are fantastic, and I can't wait to sit down and watch the lot of segments as they come out (assuming Machinima doesn't goof with the format even more than Syfy has).

In this thread, I don't really have many guidelines to set down other than:
    • Keep discussion friendly and relevant.
    • Please be sure to use spoiler tags when talking about the newest segments for a couple days after it airs. The thread is welcome to open up new info/plot after that, but just give people a chance to see it first.
    • The thread is allowed to talk about the other BSG shows and compare without spoilers since those have been out for a while.
    • Everyone is welcome to post links and info! - Please don't depend on only me to post new segments. I'll try to update when I can, but I don't know the schedule of this yet and I'll be busy while I wrap up this semester.
If there's anything I missed, just let me know and I'll add it in here. In the meantime, enjoy these trailers!

Trailer 1: (This was originally more of a network pitch, so pardon the weird titles at the end.)

(Official) Trailer 2: (Why, yes, that is another version of the apocalypse theme!)

Exclusive clip from ETC Daily: (Ignore the guy after the clip, just skip past him to 2:10 for a bit more trailer.)

I've been waiting for this ever since they keep putting it off. Doesn't matter it will be short, as long there something. Stupid SyFy cancelling Eureka for stupider shows

Edit: Damn you guys are quick. I was trying to make a second post for episode listings. :frown:

For those who want to go ahead and get started on the series, here are the first 3 videos covering "episodes" 1-4. I'll probably get started on these at some point, but please everyone be respectful of others who haven't seen them yet and SPOILER important things that happen, at least for the first couple days in here.

Edit 2: I really want to emphasize that all these segments and whatever future ones are all actually supposed to be together in one long pilot. More than likely the pacing will be wonky in this "episodic" format, so blame Syfy and not the show. Personally, I'd suggest waiting until all the segments are out and then watch them together, but I won't stop people from posting things or watching since everyone does what they will. Just bear this in mind if you choose to watch it now.

I wish it was young Edward James Olmos that was starting in it, that man can rid the world of evil with his voice
