They're real, and they look spectacular! Back in February, we reported that both 9 to 5 Google and The New York Times claimed to be hearing rumors about devices we cheerfully dubbed "Google Glasses:" Oakley-esque glasses sporting a HUD and all other kinds of useful technology. Today, that rumor became reality when Google unveiled "Project Glass," from the Google[x] division responsible for those self-driving cars.

We'd prattle on about how the concept video shows an awesome augmented reality full of on-the-fly directions, pictures, music, voice commands, locational awareness and video chat, but that'd be silly: just check out the video above to see it for yourself.

Initial reports put the price of the Google Glasses -- I'll continue to call them that, thank you very much -- at somewhere between $250 and $600. How much would you drop on a pair after watching that video?

It's pretty neat idea but I think it has a few fundamental issues. It's pretty hard for your eyes to constantly switch back and forth between focusing on something off in the distance and a something really close to your eye; it will tire your eye's out pretty quickly and will likely make anyone susceptible to motion sickness vomit rather quickly . There have actually been a couple of commercially available HMD computers in the past and they've all failed. Granted these were a couple thousand rather than the being the price of a cellphone but I'm not confident that the price range was the killing stroke for the product. Every time I ever read a review for one of those products the main problem was having to constantly switch your focus. I'd think that they would be better off just making more of an eye patch with video feeds of the world rather than a glasses. Perhaps people will get use to it though, who knows.

Also, you better be able to ignore every type of alert on that if you want to; if it's constantly throwing popups at me I would rip that the hell off my face . I'd love to try it out though.

Pure innovation! Allows for videochat, music, calls, etc. Google said somewhere they want to get this in stores at the end of the year and even gave a price estimate too. 200-600 dollars, which is really, really, fucking cheap. My god I will be buying this if I see things like this constantly improving.

And lol at running into shit when it blocks your view.

I agree totally, though they're probably tackling that obstacle already knowing Google. I really hope these turn out to be something great, because this would a large step forward in the world of technology. The only downside is that these would promote extreme laziness. =S

Get ready for them to bombard you with ads. I think the Google Glasses would be like this in reality.

The further technology develops the lazier society becomes  I for one promote laziness.

These look pretty nifty though, the thought of having constant pop-up ads made me laugh. I wonder what the glasses themselves would look like.

Stylish ofc, but definitely a little bit heavier and different from the ordinary glasses. No way will they be able to store all of that data into tiny specs unless they wired them to some type of main device, like a phone.

They would have to have a band aid ad for when an add pops up and you hit a pole.

Most likely a prototype, they definitely will turn into something badass when they're actually released.
