    1) Copy and paste the following into a notepad file:

    2) Save it as Filename.bat .. Make sure you save it as "All file types".
    3) Execute the file
    4) Go to Control Panel
    5) Click "Check for Updates" under "Security"
    6) Click "Check for Updates"
    7) Install the update. This is a 4MB update. This will get your computer ready for Service Pack 2.
    8) Once it's installed, repeat step 6. "Check for Updates"
    9) The actual service pack will now install, it should be around 300MB.

This update has some compatibility fixes and fixes some performance issues. If you encounter any problems, I am not held responsible. You will be able to restore your computer to the state it was in before installing SP2 by going into safe mode and launching System Restore.

Alrighty then, because I can't download sp1. I did what it told me to do in troubleshoot and told me to re-download.
I look for Vista Sp1 for 32 bit and only find 64 and 84 bit downloads.

Try rebooting. Also make sure you run the bat file as administrator.

The closed beta is, yes. The registry hack above tricks Windows Update into thinking you're a uber 1337 Microsoft Windows tester.

    Windows Vista SP2...
    1.) Do you have Vista?
2.) Its a service pack so it comes with all the latest hot fixes and the bigger ones that they do not want to send out individually.
3.) I do not recommend you use this as it is still in Beta and if you feel like troubleshooting your own problems, So be it. (Windows 7 was nice, - The steam incompatibility...)
    4.) Come on... :\
