I need some help retrieving some historical information. I have been searching all day and dirtbag has helped me but we may need some help.
I need info on the warships that were off the coast of Avila Beach, CA in I think 1980 (giver take a year or 2 +/-)
I need to know what war ship it was, and some pictures. I have been Google this shit for over a day.
So any help would be great.

Well, here's a starting point for you: http://olive-drab.com/od_other_navy_ships.php

I'm not sure where exactly you'd go after that, because you need to find the homeport the ships were stationed at, which would not be Avila Beach. It is probably Port San Luis Harbor or San Diego.

You also need to know how many/what type of ships you're looking for (you will probably find many ships stationed at San Luis and San Diego during a period of 4 years).

If you give me more info about what exactly you're searching for I'll try again

Edit - also, are you looking for Navy or Coast Guard? Do you know what class of ship you're looking for (destroyer, carrier, cruiser, battleship)?

edit 2 - here's a link to 'The Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships': http://www.hazegray.org/danfs/

Knowing what I was told before my grandfather died it was more than likely an Iowa Class Battleship. It was about a mile out and they moved people from shore to the boat with small boats. It was Port San Luis Obispo (Everyone here calls it avila beach) I have also sent in emails to the historical society for the county. If u need more direct info pm me or reply.
