Like the anime thread but for manga. Read a good manga? Wanna share? Post your thoughts here! :D

I only recently started reading manga, but even after just reading my second I'm really starting to see why people say the books are better than the animations. So much story and character development is cut from them to adhere to the tight restrictions of commercial television, you never get the true beauty of the manga and what the artist/author wanted to convey.

My first manga was Kodomo no Jikan, and although it was borderline child porn, it was an amazing story that enveloped the reader in the lives of the characters, and had you wanting more till the very end.

Just recently I read Prunus Girl, a story about the daily lives and eventual love life of a couple. But with a twist, the female, is actually male (trap). Although the story is nowhere near as deep as Kodomo no Jikan, it does a great job of creating humorous situations and making you laugh. The love story isn't half bad either. Was kinda cutesy.

So after just those two I'm really starting to love romance manga's and I doubt I'll be stopping here.

I'm glad to see you picking up mangas, there are some really good ones out there. I love romance-based mangas too! Right now I'm reading pretty much only action with some sub-genres due to lack of romantic mangas out there (I've read majority of them already lol).

I'm not sure what kind of romantic manga you're searching for though as they all differ from each other so I'll wait recommending until I know. But then again, glad to see you pick up the reading!:giggle:

It's about time someone made a manga thread, major kudos Dirtbag
Insert badly written and not well thought out opinion
--------->I find manga has been buried by anime most people don't even look at where the story comes from and that a good portion of substance can be cut out when a manga is converted into a anime. Also that there are awesome mangas that when it comes to artwork and shear story telling surpass animation but thats just my grumbly, salty opinion. I love manga and have read it for quite some time, not really a fan of the googly high school harem (although I will admit i was when I first started), I usually read the dark stories and when the artwork isn't cookie cutter style so my recommendations will probably be incredibly strange and at time (& in my opinion) deep and complicated. Anyway first manga I want to share is Berserk and while everyone who has ever read it would say this is not a good recommendation for anyone just getting into manga, due to its intensely dark story and very graphic art, I have to because it is what I find to be the pinnacle of what a manga can be and as clearly debatable as that is, its brilliant art style complements its tremendously epic story to near perfection. And I don't have a day to write out an essay to properly convey and argue how epic and stuff I feel berserk is but meh. When you read it you can also see the evolution of great artist and possibly get some mental traumatization, it's pretty hardcore but the events that happen are so to enrich the story and you see how the characters are effected(my half-assed arguement for anyone who go to read it after and gets scared and stops because of the first few chapters)

For people who are just getting into manga I guess read some mangas that have anime adaptations like naruto or bleach both of these I find the manga more interesting than the anime and there are a multitude of different mangas by different artist with a plethra of different genres. I'l be making more recommendations when I have the time and I have a lot to make. also some my be manhwas(korean comics) because

lol @(Terabyte_of_Porn) you actually mentioned the one and only manga i glorify!!! the movies made me want to cry coz of how bad they were. The mabnga oh god the manga is god is omg god i dont know how to describe this. everything is in there kentaro miura is a genius(guy who draws and makes story) it is based on so many classics too like hellraiser the hand of god is based on the demons in this movie and many more i wont have the time to mention. but yeah you need the heart to read berserk thats for sure but its a shame not too because of how good it is! although i must mention one good classic, dragon ball i read it all and i enjoyed it all its a good classic. personaly naruto manga is better than the anime but dats just my opinion and for some peoples information: those who watch bleach, the manga isnt over but the anime is so you're missing out!

apart from that id say D gray man but i dont know if the autor is ever gonna get well and finish it tho since shes sick right now.... i liked katekyo hitman reborn too better than the anime i swear and more serious! -this can be read by people who have a small cute heart like dirtbag and dont like all the blood and deaths like there is in berserk

Fairytail manga is really good the anime sucks in my opinion the characters are weird and one of the main char lucy was made more into a fan service girl than a protagonist i didnt really like that and the weird seals they use for attacks in the anime.... this doesnt exist in the manga -__-

Highschool of the dead for the amazing story and it doesnt have the fucking traumatism related to parents and shit jap people have so the protagonist is actually manly ans isnt a wuss -zombie manga survival its good -on a separate note the anime is actually good since it actually has all the stuff and its copy paste from the manga, but the manga goes farther so its worth it to give it a shot

Claymore is super good if you like stories with demons, mystery, a touch of darkness and good story and drawings too. not too brutal a good thing to watch after getting used to mangas like dragon ball and d gray man if you have difficulty with manga where characters you may like die!!!

Gantz... okay if you cant read berserk, you wont be able to read this this is just a notch lower than berserk but still really dark with lots of deaths weird aliens really gory almost as much as berserk the story is still really good although berserk is still better and it has that dark side too!!

Freezing amazing story good protagonists and characters humors sometimes just at the right places just the drama you may want, its really deep and id say gory but not too much. i really enjoyed it

deadman wonderland really dark story imo and some good mistery with the drama the gore is there i never watched the anime although ive dl it so i dont know if its any good compared to the manga!

xxxholic and tsubasa reservoir chronicle these go together since their stories intertwine in each other its necessary in my opinion to read both to understand everything. really good gives you thias mystery occult feeling and has a pretty deep story with characters youll love! from the ones who made cardcaptor sakura!

pandora hearts mysterious, dark, some gore deep story with a bigger drama side but coming from someone who cant stand shit like clannad im telling you this is good the drama didnt make me want to stop reading it, even makes it better!!!

That guyz is MY manga recommendations for people who may be searching something to read although even tho its not a manga id recommend Blood c +the movie that is like the final episode the last dark!! it was made by those who made xxxholic and is really good and mysterious and deep but a hella gory but i really liked it!!!

and this is just my opinion i dont wanna start an argument here about what is good or not!! i hope this helps!!! :callme:

Started reading Sankarea. I enjoyed the manga but I always wanted to see more of their daily lives/relationship, but I was met with the surprise the manga is still ongoing. O: It's been 5 years, did the artist drop the project or is it just a really slow moving one? I really want to see a happy ending to the story, so I hope it's still going though. Even if it's a slow process, it drives me nuts to drop a movie/book half way through.

It's a pain waiting for updates, but it's still on-going at least. Yeah, I want more romance development between Furuya and Rea however so far there are only a few glimpse of romance aspects between them. Hopefully they'll become real lovers (that's what I hope for anyway lol). I mean, this manga started out with Furuya having this uhh..fetish for female zombies and that fact ought to mean something right?

I thought the updates were monthly but I'm not sure anymore. The only thing I know is that it will update sooner or later xD.

^ This. I would say however that Tower of God is the best among them, but that's just me. Definitely among my top 10 best mangas so far.

Right now I think it's more focused on the story than the relationship. Although I got into the anime because I was looking for a love story and was really taken by surprise when the manga had such an in depth story to it, but I really still want to see them get together and preserve her body finally, hopefully maybe get some fun "happily ever after" antics of their daily life too.

Exactly! I want this lovey-dovey ending as well, though I hope the manga will continue for a while longer heh.

Oooooh damn @Welsper the berserk movies were just pitiful the way they butchered the arcs was just agonizing to watch but the music was good (they brought in the same awesome composer from the anime series which is thought was watchable) Gantz is a monster of a manga and probably has the best sifi story manga provides, every time I thought it couldn't get any more brutal or epic it dose so for anyone looking for a staggeringly amazing "adult" sifi manga (and when I say adult I don't say that due to the nudity and gore but because the story is just down right hardcore) this is one you might want to look up. And claymore is definitely a great manga for anyone who's starting out but I can't describe it well without give away any spoilers.

And for another recommendation is one of those manwhas I was talking about in my last post called
                          Shin Angyo Onshi
                          Blade of the Phantom Master
                          230px-Saocover2
While yes this is not technically a manga, the reason why I'm suggesting this is because of the sentimental value (yes) I have for it .This was what walked me through the transition from more light-hearted and care-free mangas to ones with more depth and complexity. The story is amazing and immersive with plenty of feels in between while also not going to over the top with gore or nudity along with the artwork being detailed and stunning. Blade of the Phantom Master is (if I remember right) a 7 volume fantasy epic with magic, swords, and gun that carries plenty of emotion I loved it still do and recommend it to anyone looking to spend a couple of hours reading a brilliant story.
