    i need a shovel and/or a pic axe model.
im pretty sure valve has it in the hl2 model pool,
but i cannot find it x.x

someone probably remember a map where this models are in,
and can give me name or path to models.

    its just a skin, a texture -.-
this dont help, i need path to this hl2 model

i cannot browse thousands of models to locate it

hitting "picaxe" or "shovel" in the search filter bring nothing
    as result.

oh and this on the first link looks to much like a snow-shovel

yeah, but i want this from hl2 to save filesize...

anyway, i got the shovel by browsing thousands of models
    (to be exactly, 3800) -.-
    dint found a pickaxe.

If you would like I could try my hand at modelling a pick axe. I've never tried it before but I can see what I can do.

Just get a picture of what you want it to look like and I'll go from their.

I can definately model both those things for you and MORE. But the downside is I can model it in 3DS Max (Dont know if you can integrate that ).

I can save the file as a .3DS, .obj, .fbx .... there are more formats. Also if you think you can use these max models, just let know the polly count so I can make it accordingy.

thanks both for try do this,
but im pretty sure there is already a pickaxe in the big hl2
model pool, but i cannot find it ... that is the main issue
  10. May 15, 2011
Well then if you could tell me where this "model pool" (Or how to get to it) is then I can help you look through it. (I have time.)

However I do not believe you will be able to find the pick axe for as much Valve games as I have played I've NEVER crossed a pick axe before. So unless you get a community made one or have Monkey do it. I don't see this becoming a reality.

Lulz Monkey. 3DS Max is THE biggest modeling tool. So of course their is a plugin for that. Just download it.
Valve usually makes the plugins themselves, and all Valve models are .mdl files.

When I first saw the post was like when did our forum became like a Craigslist.

As I thought you were looking for "MODEL", get it? As in MODEL, MODEL, not that "model" you are looking for.

    Sorry lousy joke,

what game are you guys talking about?
  13. Oct 10, 2010
what do you think we talk about?

    Half Life 2

there is probably no pickaxe, but like ever, a shovel is ok so far.

    for the modeling part..

i think Valve use XSI Modtool, since there is a link to it in SDK
3ds max has no exporter by default, but cannonfodder did one for 3ds max 8,
the bad thing is you need .qc files to compile it, and this is the tricky part since OB
  14. Feb 1, 2011
So cant use max models ?
  15. Oct 10, 2010
it does no matter what modeling program yo use,
when it has an .smd exporter.

but the .smd needs compiled to an .mdl

cannon fodders shit is outdated, and he is inactive,
    thats main problem

you should look here to learn more http://www.chaosincarnate.net/cannonfodder/cftools.htm

    LOL wow

looks like he is back active

I still don't understand how people don't know 3DS Max is the TOP of the modeling... something.

So Dark, yes you can use Max models. Just when you make them export them as .mdl files.

For those who use Sketchup. Do the same. Except I don't believe their is a direct export to .mdl? You need to find a way around that.

Edit: Moonlight. 3DS Max has a built in .mdl exporter. You don't need anything else... or do you?

for your information, better is Maya or Cinema 4d

i think Valve now use Maya...
  18. May 15, 2011
    Oh. I didn't know that.

But ya Maya is pretty much the same as 3DS. I never could tell the difference.

But Cinema 4D? Never heard of it. I'll have to look into that.

Edit: LOL. No wonder. It's German.
  19. Oct 10, 2010
    i dont think so
it probably come with an .smd exporter.
but you need compile this smd to an mdl

this is how it worked before OB update comes

(note: this is written in german, and translated with google)
  20. May 15, 2011

    Oh my.
I never knew it was such a process.
I think I'll stick to Sketchup. Although it still exports to .smd. :frown:

Anyways, Thanks for all the help.

Actually this is your post for help and you've helped me more than I've helped you...
