Too bad GTA4 is a fucking horrible port... and lol is it just youtube sucking or is that video laggier than shit? Mad FPS drops / hiccups if it's not youtube... gotta admit tho it looks a lot better than the other GTA4 graphic enhancement mods out there.

Tempted to try it but I doubt my 2 6870's will even be able to do it justice

edit: fuck it im trying this shit

    edit2:

It works perfectly on 1.0.4.0 GTA 4 PATCH
It works horribly on 1.0.6.0/1.0.7.0 PATCH

GG so Steam users are fucked... unless someone knows how to uh... rollback...

well shit. Guess I gotta delete some files and validate the steam cache files so it will re-DL the missing .exe's so i can check the version it installs, we'll see.

edit3: Steam appears to install 1.0.7.0 by default, could try installing patch 1.0.4.0 over it but I doubt that will work and uh, yeah not gonna waste my time. If anyone has it on steam and gets it goin let me know.

GTA 4 is much, much, much, much more CPU dependent than GPU dependent. A decent graphics card will run the game fine as long as it's combined with a quad core CPU and you have enough video memory (1GB or above is great). Anything less than a quad core and it's going to lag (I blame the Euphoria physics engine. It uses CPU like SRCDS on steroids. Thank fuck it's multithreaded.) Deferred rendering can do some amazing things.

Real time ray tracing is a ways off for games (~6-10 years IMO). However, floating point operations that GPU's can do is increasing at an exponential rate with every new architecture ATi/nVidia pumps out.

Like Ray said, GTA IV Demands A LOT from your CPU more than GPU.

This is where Overclocking will help boost your game play on GTA IV

I realize, I was just being obnoxious. I use to do ray trace renderings at 1920 x 1200 and to do a relatively simple one took about 30min with a good CPU. Anything with glass or grass took 24hrs.

I don't get why they do graphics updates for old games is all. It seems useless. We as a society are so obsessed with how things things look that we revamp the old constantly (movie remakes, eye-candy-shit films, plastic surgery, game remakes). I find it somewhat annoying is all; I don't really know honestly.

It just seems to me that instead of continually working on an old project, an old model, that the effort put forth in that endeavor could be used in the experimentation and invention of a new paradigm.

Why should I complain though, it's not like I'm doing it. Oh well...

welp here's to hoping my i7 930 at 4ghz will do the deed, I pirated a gta4 iso over night so I'm gonna give this bitch a whirl soon but uh, I doubt it will run well...

NO KYLE, I ILLEGALLY PIRATED THAT SHIT BUT IT'S TOTALLY COOL CAUSE I BOUGHT THAT GAME THRICE NOW, RIGHT?! (full price for the 360 when it came out, once for $7 on steam, then got the GTA pack for $9 which included all of em... they didn't give me an extra copy of 4 to gift someone which was pretty lame). <_<

Well it works and runs really smooth (like the best I've seen GTA4 run) if you lower the view distance a bit (which was really surprising, but using DEFAULT graphic settings it runs fucking HORRIBLY), but mine's bright as shit... installation file didn't mention any customizing of settings either, maybe it has something to do with "light shafts" whatever the fuck that is.

Edit: wasn't lightshafts, those are just the "Crysis 2" lighting effect... seems to only be bright in SOME areas... and regular or close to regular in others, but it's still on the bright side. I still think it's amazing that this shit runs smoother than regular GTA4, literally no hiccups.

If you fix it, you should share it  Mines seems waaay toooooooo bright lol.

And if you lower the view distance, the more performance you will gain.

All I did was lower my view distance a bit and it runs smooth as fuck. Didn't have to change anything else

Here's my config - fixes the brightness and makes the trees not look like ass but that's all

    Code:

//Does the same thing as ENB
//DO NOT PLAY WITH IT TOO MUCH. You might break everything
