Just recently, I launched css, and it asked I had to convert css to a different format, and it wouldn't let me say no, so I chose too, then I launched css when it finished, and tried joining ZE, but after it recieved info, it quit the game and showed this on my screen :-/

    Engine Error
    V_AppendSlash: ran out of space on /Users/samkennedy/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Source/cstrike/download/maps/ze_ffvii_mako_reactor_v5_3.bsp.

I then went into my Maps folder, and removed ze_ffvii_mako_reactor_v5_3.bsp. and tried again, and it downloaded the map again from the server, but still happened again..

    Someone please help :frown:

    common/Counter-Strike Source/cstrike/download/maps/
That's what the error said. Move the maps from that folder to cstrike/maps

If you did that there is a new error because maps are no longer located in download

Would reinstaling my Counterstrike source work?

probably. Everyone was forced to update to the steampipe beta. I haven't had problems with anything so far since I opted in just in time (Thanks Kyla). Unfortunately I have no insight on how to fix your problems, but I would recommend the steam forums and see if there's any additional help if Satsukii 's advice isn't working.

CS:S is actually reading three different folders :
    - cstrike/maps
    - cstrike/download/maps
    - cstrike/custom/[custom folder name]/maps

I know I had that issue when I mirrored my cstrike/download/maps and my cstrike/custom/[custom folder name]/maps. Simple fixed was to delete everything in custom. Also in the future, CS:S is downloading new maps from the server to cstrike/download/maps. So...you could manually move it every time to download a map to the cstrike/maps, but I would just leave it in the cstrike/download/maps.

Also you're on a Mac OSX and you're file structure will differ from the majority of here. Thus, the possibility of getting help might be low.

This is really a mess from Valve, but after all is fixed and worked out, it's better because it's faster, and also finally in Hammer we won't have the problem anymore (that I had 2 days ago with my contest map) that textures from other source games will be mixed, as for packing that's just horrible!

I have the same problem V_AppendSlash: ran out of space on /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Counter-Strike Source/cstrike/maps/zm_atix_helicopter.bsp.
Some of custom maps work, like de_dust, even some ze maps (ze_toaster) but most of the times i get this error. Have you found solution?

Maybe delete everything and turn off Steam Cloud when downloading stuff such as maps? Couldn't hurt to try...

Has there been a fix for this yet? Im having this issue on my mac as well. Seems to only affect new maps I have to download. ze_minecraft_adventure_v1_1 & ze_abandoned_project_v1_2 for example returns this error. I would just download/transfer the map from my windows machine, but I'm lazy.

Was surprised to do a google search on this and this topic/forum was my first result.

Seems to be a mac specific issue. The simple answer is to get a PC. The simpler answer is to download the maps manually.

Its annoying when some people say "Get a PC".

Macs have been able to dual boot into windows for years now. Some of us just prefer to game under the mac environment sometimes. The console text looks so much better and easier to read when I'm in CSS on mac.

See if you have the same map on two different path. I had this issue on Windows OS at the early start of the steampipe update. Try to find if the map is already in either /cstrike/maps and /cstrike/download/maps.

I fixed my issue by removing all the maps in /cstrike/maps and using the default way that Valve intended. Which is having all server downloaded maps in /cstrike/download/maps. If you meddle with it (as seen by the mass outcry) you will have "issues".

But most games are much easier run on PC's vs Macs. From what I understand that's kind of the trade off for gaming on a Mac. Most platforms are geared more towards the PC side of things. I would suggest as Bender says and see how that works for you.

Side note PC's generally have better hardware. Most people don't want to shell out $1500+ for a comparable Mac to game on.

Whoops didn't see this until now. I've found a temp work around for this stupid error.

        Follow teh path to coolness:

        1. Join the server and download the map until you get the error message. Once you get the error message, the map is already downloaded onto your computer and all you need to do is move it to the maps folder. Which I will teach you how to...

        2. Right click on FINDER and click GO TO FOLDER.
        3. Type in /users/(whatever the hell your username is)/library and push GO. (Fill in whatever your username is with whatever your username is)
        4. Open Application Support
        5. Scroll on down and find Steam.
        6. Open SteamApps.
        7. Open Common
        8. Open CSS. Not your gay porn folder.
        9. Open cstrike.
10 Find the folder download. Open it. Open maps. Highlight all the maps and drag it to the desktop.
        11. Move back to your cstrike folder and find maps, should be right above materials.
        12. Find the maps you copied to the desktop and drag those files into maps.
        13. Close finder. Relaunch CSS. Enjoy.

This is my process on getting shit to work so far it has not failed me.
