Remixing a Song the easy way

Is there a way to remix songs the easy way? maybe using SoundForge or Audacity?
links to tutorials if you have some?

e.g. remix a couple of electronic/dance songs so that as if they are played using the violin or the piano.

Choose a DAW that supports midi, find the midi of the song you wish to "remix", import the midi into the daw, assign a violin or piano VSTi (or rather a VSTi with a violin or piano patch, or a sampler) to the midi channel with the note data you wish to use, then finish the other midi channels with bass, drums, etc (or leave these out, whateva floats your boat). You could be done in less than 2 mins (granted it will sound like shit but since you just want an easy way it might be to your satisfaction). Doesn't get much lazier than that.

I don't know which free DAW's aren't shitty, but as far as commercial goes specifically for what you're trying to achieve, you're probably just gonna snag FL Studio, find a bunch of tutorials on youtube since there's a plethora of them and have some fun fucking around with midi data and replacing sounds. FL Studio is also pretty self-contained, it'll come with some samples that you can use on drums and other shit (they're pretty bad though) and has a OK collection of default plugins / instruments. You can always download & use 3rd party VST/VSTi's as well though.
