Many people may remember studying in their world history class . Many may recall the chapters on World War II. In one chapter, they taught us about the "Evacuation of Dunkirk". Nearly 340,000 British and french troops were evacuated from Dunkirk France in world war two. Up till the, the 21st century it was the largest sea evacuation in history.

On September 11th 2001 the world witnessed terror at its worst. Many people saw great evil on 9/11. People remember the heroics, the loss of life, and the suffering of innocent people at the hands of hate and destruction. Many people forget the lost heros of the 9/11. Many remember the Firefighters, Police, EMS, Doctors ,Nurses, and even average citizens who risked their lives to save other from the Ground Zero site.

The forgotten heros are the Boats that evacuated nearly 1,000,000 civilians from Manhattan Island. On the day of 9/11, a call went out to any and all boats capable of carrying people to respond to Manhattan Island for an evacuation of the island. Nearly 1000 boats responded to the call. Hundreds of thousands of people to nearly a million people ran to the boat docks for help and what they saw was nothing short of a miracle. Boats from all over the Hudson river arrived at the docks and waters edge. As the world trade center collapsed, men and women of New York and New jersey maritime community took action. Steaming full speed toward Manhattan to evacuate their fellow citizens and without a thought toward their own agenda, safety, or life.

September 11th, 2001 was remembered a day of great heroics, bravery, and resilience to overcome great tragedy. This day would also be known as “The Great Boatlift of 9/11”. That day showed mankind’s best and worst. People on September 11th, 2001 united for a in a way no one ever though could happen. People showed what it means to be human, and what it means to care for another. People may fight, argue, and even kill eachother, but people can also unite in a way that no other species on this planet has ever united before. We can become one voice, one body, and one mind when we have to and that is what makes us human.

"The great boat lift of September 11th 2001, became the largest sea evacuation in history. Larger than the evacuation of Dunkirk in World War Two; Where 339,000 British and French soldiers were rescued over the course of nine days. On 9/11 nearly 1,000,000 civilians were rescued from Manhattan by boat, it took less than nine hours.”

Humanity has its ways of impressing.

There's been PoW stories from WWII where american pow's would be escorted through towns, and those citizens would throw tomatoes at the americans, the nazis took it as ridicule and simply laughed at it, while the americans knew the citizens were throwing food to feed them.
