The mic spamming needs to stop. If we could divert people from the server to talk on vent we will lag less and have controll more. Am i the only one with comcast that gets buffer over flow so much?

rarely anyone uses vent. plus we could discuss who to ban without the....server guests......knowing. lol. good luck on rounding everyone up though.

Edit: damn , im doind a lot of edits tonight. um, I go in vent sometimes, but mostly john, or kyle goes in there. i haven't seen any of the others in before.

Comcast uses bandwidth throttling, If anything start there. Then start thinking why your on such a sketchy ISP. And then last but not least, Blame your self for making this thread and not using Google.

I have Comcast cable and I never get lagged out due to buffer overflow. Are you on wireless? If you are, list what kind of router you have. Maybe it's just your router having an issue with how much information goes through it.

I was told the buffer overflow is a bug with steam that still is being fixed. Also if you are using wireless, use a ethernet cord instead. People do have the right though to chat on the mic, and it is something that cant be stopped realistically. Ill try to stress vent a little better though.

I tested something and i got really weird results. I went into the one HG server dust noobs i think it is. Everyone was mic spamming like you couldn't believe and i was lag free and i didn't get buffer over flow. I guess i am gonna have to watch and mute every mic stepper. (*after a warning of course)

well muting mic steppers would make you mute everyone.
    everyone mic steps.
we just need to enforce ventrilo more often.

Pushing people to use Vent will just drive them away. In-game voice is fine. The admins just need to enforce the no spamming rules a little more on it and we won't have problems with buffer overflows.

I agree if we forced people to go into vent to get into the server we would get no people. I just think any screaming or yelling OMG WTF!!! in to the mic doesnt solve anything.

this is honestly one of my biggest gripes on this server. gets rediculously aggravating when someones trying to say something important to the entire server at the moment and people still scream bullshit and start conversations over people...simply put, a quick mute + private message from an admin would prolly get things done and solved quick enough with repeated abusers of this. if they dont catch on simple mute for a while works...im just tired of the headaches from new people talking all the shit in the world to someone that might as well not be listening...

Generally when I am on the server, I do enforce some bit of a no spamming rule. If people choose to spam, then I will mute them and warn them to not spam, then un-mute. More often than not, the apologize for it and cease the spamming. In the few instances they continue to spam, then I give them a kick from the server to show that rules will be enforced.

The main problem is that many of the newer admins do not communicate the rules clearly enough to the players.

we have ventrilo public chat room for a reason.

i think regulars should use it.

the new kids let them know others are using it, they'll use it as well

Yeah, because forcing people to alt tab, launch Ventrilo, then join the server and find the channel is really going to make people want to stay. Especially if they are just casual players looking for a quick zombie mod game.

Trust me on this one. No matter how much you push people to join vent, they won't do it. Why should they when they already have a voice option available that works fine as it is? Besides, if you get disconnected from buffer overflows in CS:S then that same number of people spamming in vent will be no different. Especially since vent will further use their bandwith, which would be the reason for the overflows in the first place.

The reason he gets disconnected is due to his own computer, not the server.

Agreed. I never get disconnected due to buffer overflow...

...On a completely unrelated note, my CSS game and Steam crash on a semi-regular basis... sometimes crashing the entire computer for good measure.

thats just about it though...a bit more snappiness for the spammers would certainly be appreciated from certain admins and definately hope some of them pull their big boy panties up and get on the ball...
