    This is my second map i've made. i based it of the movie, 30 days of night. it took me about a day or two to make. please tell me what u think. left some pics of different parts of the course. can be found at http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/106732

    NICE! Can i ask? what skybox are you useing, and do you have a env_light in there?

    i was using a sky box, but then i just painted it black with cs_italy because i couldnt find a working night texture, but the course still worked with regular lights all in the buildings in stuff.

    I don't care if it's his first map or 600th map, if he only spent a day on it, it's not worth anything. He's on his way to become like the 10,000 other CSS mappers who crank garbage maps out day after day after day.

    Yes, I'm a bitch. I get a little pissy when I spend 6 months on a map that everyone says is shit because I moved some secrets around and they cba to learn the new ones. They don't bother looking at the detail I put into the level. Then you have a map like this where everyone is going "OMG TOTALLY AWESOME BASTARD GROOVY" when he only spends a day on it. Put yourself in my shoes for once.

    So try Telling him HOW TO FIX IT AND MAKE IT BETTER. That's the "Constructive" part of the criticism.
    Let's try it out.

    you acted like a stupid, dick loving, ass licking, douche bag in your post, you could fix this by giving him hints and tips on how to fix it.(IE Brushwork sucks, try using this *Answer Blank* and use this instead of that to fix the lighting.)

    I'll only comment on your v6b, apart from the fact the map layout is damn near the same, has the same name, but still no credit, nor permission from random hero or Natalya. You kinda retextured it, made some rooms damn near impossible(Water room), and made some super easy(Top of crates, you put ladders in, now noobs know which way to go D: ) spots to be killed at.

    It's not the secrets, you took something good and made it worse. You spent time on it, I'd expect more if it took six months.

    10% of mappers actually take the time and effort to make their complex over-the-top map look good.

    30% skimp on the fun aspects and go for aesthetics, along with complex tricks and OOhs and AAhs

    the other 60% crank out half-assed simple maps that look like shit, but play like a legend.

    im happy to be part of that 60%, because looks definitely are NOT everything from a mappers point of view. i could just as easily take this map, add more light to it, fix the textures, add a few doohickeys, and then i've got your version of a passable map.

    so before you bust an artery about the whole deal, consider this:

    Would you rather have a pretty map that took months to make, and get only 10 fps due to a large/our server size?

    or would you have a map that looks basic, but it loads of fun to play on, and you get great fps because you didnt use an assload of textures and complex mechanics.

    as far as making maps and being in your shoes, I spend time trying to make maps as an amateur. the only ones that get anal about their work are the ones that have nothing else to do BUT rip apart someone elses work just because it doesn't meet THEIR standards...it's sad, because even a hammer n00b can show up a long time user based on a simple idea rather than an elaborate waste of time. point proven here, in this topic, for example.


    90% of CS:S population would go with the fun aspect, because nobody wants to play a game where the point is to look at how hard a person worked on a map.


    @OP: Not familiar with the movie, but it would add a sense of scariness in my opinion if the walls were a gate texture. idk, but theres something about being in a pitch black gated area that sends shivers down my spine.

    tyvm to those who gave constructive criticism and stuff. and i would like to point out to the people who are mad at my map not being too complex, i would like to point out that lila_panic was not super beautiful, it wasnt very complex, but it is probably the most played Zm map ever.

    ps. i do look forward to touching the course up some, i think the gate texture is a good idea

    The only thing your post has proven is how ignorant you and most of the community are. This is why trashy maps and mappers stay trashy, they're too lazy to spend time and take pride in their work to make it better and would rather see the same or worse shit released so they don't look inferior to other mappers.

    And since you're obviously too inexperienced and don't care to figure out, detailed maps don't equate to bad framerates. It's just a sad myth y'all have created and come to believe to keep the mapping bar in the toilet.

    In all honesty i like maps that give good fps, due to my gpu it doesn't really matter but i like having more. Also i am not saying that i don't like good looking maps, i do in all regards. The biggest thing to me though is if the map has functional spots with things in the room to be usable or quick to get from other areas to cade with if i choose to do that. On top of that it kinda has to have spots where people can bunch up if they want, hide alone or even kinda climb stuff to make it harder to access them.

    Map looks interesting and does need some work, but seems like a fun map to play on.

    name that can't be spelled: Why don't you two join up or something on the map and fix the bugs together and toss ideas around to make the map better. I am sure with his simple design and your ability to be able to fix the map with texture more it can become a successful map.

    Figure if he comes up with a good simple concept and you help with making it look nice and clean some things up that are incorrect and inform him on it and how to prevent farther issues with it, you guys could make one bitching map.
