Raising Money for the new Server

Right, we're due for a new server very soon, most likely before new year's.

It's coming out of both my pocket and the server host's pocket. Therefore I ask each and every one of you to try and pitch in as much as possible. It's only respectful that you do so. Your money will help go torwards the new server. It will cost about $2000 and I need to raise every penny I can get beforehand. This is the only time I can get it, and it's either now or never. I need to raise about $500 in a month's time, from this community! The server we plan on getting will consist of Dual Opterons, which will allow us to run 50-60 slots @ 66 tick without any lag at all. Please feel free to donate even the smallest amount. Doing so you'll help ensure the future of PlagueFest on this new server. It will keep the same IP address so you will not have to update your favorites.

Would make sense to keep it the same.

No doubt people would end up sending to ck's paypal as well as the new one.

One thing I don't get, why do we need this new one? just for the sake of having a better server, or because we ain't getting it free after January?

The server hosting is free, however getting a new server is not.

When you say new server, do you mean, new 2nd server or a brand new I.P. server for zm

Yes. A brand new server that will run under the same IP address. The server itself isnt free, thus why I'm raising money cause I dont want my friend to pay for it all.

Basic explanation time.. Your right.. Its capable of running a CSS standard server np... But.. We got a 42 slot, Unlimited ammo zm mode server... Maps that got mad crap to barricade yourself with etc... and also we host a SAMP server and bunch of other things blablabla Not like the average CSS where the servers are usually 42 slot or much less with limited ammo, Not many items to process all over the map, not a mod, no gunz blazing full throttle etc you know what i mean?

In order to have a lag free, 60 slot, 66 tick zm mode server you will need a server upgrade for sure. If we can get it upgraded why not?

Why? Well, lets see...

At the current state of the server, at 42 slots @ 33tick:

- The server can't pull a constant server-side FPS of 500FPS when the server is full.
- Source Dedicated Server is a CPU whore. It uses 100% constantly when the server is full and thats where all the lag comes from.
- Lots of maps crash when the server CPU reaches 100%
- There are a shitload of good maps out there that can't be added to the server - because of bad CPU usage.
- These Xeons are Netburst-based, this means that it uses the old Pentium 4 architecture. Waaay out-dated for such CPU intensive applications.
- There is more than just PlagueFest running on the box.

...Thats just pathetic.

The server is limited by it's processing power, and ZombieMod only hinders it thanks to the Unlimited Ammo.


Look, I'm pitching in $500 from my own pocket, and whatever I can get from this community. I do not have to do this. Be grateful that I am doing so. To you, Retslag1, the sever may look more than adequate, but these OLD Xeons severely hinder the server's capabilities. The rest of the server is perfectly fine (10gbit connection, 2GB RAM, Dual 160GB Sata HDD's), however if you want to be an ass about it I'll cancel the fucking process. I'm sorry for trying to help the community and making it a better place.

The server cannot be upgraded either. The motherboard is Socket 604 and the only other Xeon that I can find that will fit it is another Netburst-based Xeon @ 3.2GHz, priced at $700. :rolleyes: According to the Network tech. at CarpathiaHost, This Socket 604 motherboard is exclusive to the Dell PowerEdge SC1425 (which is the server model).
