It's most likely overheating but I wanna check. Okay, when I play graphics intensive games, like crysis or starcraft, I can get in 5-10 minutes of playtime, then my screen goes black and my computer just stops running, the tower's fans stop, the power button is still lit, but no life from the computer. Could it be overheating? Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 ghz Nvidia 470 GTX 2GB Ram 650W Power Supply 500gb HDD I've aleady been told my video card is too much for the processor I currently own =P
If this just started happening when you got your video card, it couldn't hurt to return it for another just to make sure its not a bad card.
ya when did this start happening...... also check your cpu heatsink for signs of lots of dust, as that could be over heating and turning it off.
Looks like it's already been covered. Either the graphics card or CPU is overheating causing your system to put itself into protection mode. Check with the manufacturer's website for your motherboard as they have utilities you can download and install to monitor temperature.
>GTX 470 Those things run pretty damn hot as it is... But yeah, try RMAing it. If you still have the same problem with a new card, you might want to look into an aftermarket VGA cooler. And as far as temperature monitoring software, I find that HWmonitor is pretty nice. And it's small and free to download.
Starting an RMA process is jumping the gun a little bit. We don't even know if it's an issue with the GPU. While you play the game, monitor your temps with an application such as GPU-Z. I also have a 470 and it gets up to 96*C while running Furmark (but then, Furmark is designed to make your cards TDP to go through the roof. It will never go that high in a real world situation). Try a different set of drivers, as well.
Alright, when I ran starcraft on my computer, the video card was running at a comfortable 75-80C, However, my duo core was clocking at around 51 and 50.
Very true. Did not notice that myself until just now lol. Your GPU is being handicapped by your CPU, I recommend either upgrading or overclocking that CPU, depending on what model it is. Also, I can't believe this did not occur to me earlier, but does anything appear in Event Viewer when your PC randomly shuts off? Check it by typing Event Viewer in your run box...
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 ghz Nvidia 470 GTX 2GB Ram 650W Power Supply 500gb HDD Hmmm, RAM seems pretty small only 2 GB but shouldn't be a problem I guess... I have: Pentium Dual Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70 GHz RAM = 4 GB. VC = GTX 260, PSU = 850 W Corsair I had a shitty PSU so I upgraded to a better one. I'm suspecting that your card might not be getting enough power. Also, check if its connected correctly. At first, I've connected my video card wrong (with only 1 cable) and it suppose to connect with 2. Hence, my video card wasn't getting enough power. I'm not quite sure if 650 W PSU is enough for your card, might not be really enough.
Alright, new computer specs: Still getting random computer restarts, however the computer isn't overheating as badly. Intel i7 870 2.93 ghz 4 GB RAM 650W Coolermaster Nvidia GTX 470 Thought I do see the processor clocks in at 60 at the highest and then goes back down. Any tips?
hello, i recently had smae problem as u, i got a new dual core processor to replace my single core and i kept freezing, reinstalled windows taking out my 2gb chip leaving in a 512 mb chip closest to processor and problem gone, but now i need to find out if i can put the 2gb chip back in. Anyways good luck to u.
