I have an HP TouchSmart IQ770. It was purchased in December at Fry's Electronics. It's OS is Vista Home Edition. The first four months, it ran just fine. Now, for the past couple of months it has taken up more memory, doesn't run as fast as it did, and it's anti-virus and firewall ceased to work or pick anything up, giving my computer Viruses and screwing it up. In the past month or so, I had to run task manager at startup because it wouldn't load the explorer.exe on it's own, proving that the stupid machine is pretty much fucked. About an hour ago I was on CS:S, and it locked up, like it usually does. I would then power the machine off and wait for it to give me the option to either run in safe mode or run it regularly. But this time it didn't happen like that. I got a message saying Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. Here is the thing that makes me want to shoot someone in the face. My computer didn't come with a disk or anything that I can use to fix it. The message won't go away, and I can't get onto my desktop and I don't know if I have a warranty or anything. Plus I don't think Fry's fixes computers. So there. I would like to know if you can help me out. Please, no posts that show your sympathies or the likes. I just want to get it fixed.
idea get the driver then burn it to a disk the put it in your computer Just a idea. (driver from internet)
ALL pre-buil computers have either a disc, or a partitioned part of the hdd from which u can reinstall the OS. I hope you dont have anything you need to keep on there, as it sounds like ur OS is screwed and just needs a reinstall. And, usually, pre-built computers have a 1 yr warrenty, unless u buy extended plan. Open up ur compter to look at the C drive. You will likely see a D drive as well (it might be called RECOVERY).
Mine came with nothing. I can't use it, so I cannot get into the drives. I guess this means Taters and I can't be admin until this is fixed. If Ck, John, Cam, or Kyle reads this, can you stop our payments until this is resolved? EDIT: Forgot to mention that I visit the forums on my other 4 year old computer and my iPod touch. In case you thoughtI could still run on my HP TS.
I found out on another site, in which I asked the same question. My buddy said this: "I know your problem, your HDD just crashed. Your outta luck, you can try and find a guy to back everything up you had on it, but if you can't, you have to start over. The message saying Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key is saying that what you have selected as a hdd isn't there, or in other terms, its broke. I've heard of HP's having bad luck with hdd's lately, its shame, I like their computers and its giving them bad rep." So I have Hard drive failure. Great. I guess I'm going to be gone for a while.
you are going to have to call the manufacturer than and get the disks. They usually charge between 30-100 dollars.
That's a tough situation you have there. I see a number of problems: 1) I assume you know how to open your case, however, you have never done it before. 2) This is the biggest problem.. No disks?! 3) Money for a new HDD What is your EXACT Touch smart model again? I could maybe find the right kind of HDD that would work with your system, and I could figure out all the drivers you need (IE Video, Ethernet, Sound, etc), burn it onto a disk, and ship that as well.
Im going to bitch and whine to the company and chew their asses out to either get me a new HDD or a new machine. I'm not coming out of this empty handed.
1. You are going to have to contact hp and give them your information such as the s/n of the computer and so on, info on who registered it and such. You might end up spending 30-100 depending on how they are about certain things, as stated. 2. Drivers for anything are usually always on the companies website, so those are easy as hell to get. **** **** 3. If you really have stuff on your computer that you have to have and can't do without get a sata/ide usb cable kit. Using one right now on a persons hard drive to clean it up and get back in good working order. Only about 20 bucks and basically all it does is turn a hard drive into a external one. You might be able to get one and run through certain programs and be able to fix what is corrupted. 4. Should of got a dell ohhhh.... jk jk
Why the hell do I see these threads when their dead... PM me and Ill give you any operating system you want (It'll cost you 10cents however for the CD or DVD, And you will need a CD/DVD Burner.)
